Does A Painter Need A Builder’s License?
What’s a Rich Text element?
The rich text element allows you to create and format headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, images, and video all in one place instead of having to add and format them individually. Just double-click and easily create content.
Static and dynamic content editing
A rich text element can be used with static or dynamic content. For static content, just drop it into any page and begin editing. For dynamic content, add a rich text field to any collection and then connect a rich text element to that field in the settings panel. Voila!
How to customize formatting for each rich text
Headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, figures, images, and figure captions can all be styled after a class is added to the rich text element using the "When inside of" nested selector system.
The Australian government takes contractor regulations seriously. It’s important to ensure that the general public is protected from unqualified contractors performing work on buildings and other structures. For this reason, penalties can be steep for companies and individuals who violate contractor law and work without the appropriate licenses. Fines can reach $250,000 with the most serious offenders being sentenced to a year in prison. Painters should understand what licenses are required to perform their work to avoid any negative consequences.
Does A Painter Need A Builder’s License?
Generally, a painter does not need a builder’s license to complete most painting work. In Australia, painters are required to complete both Certificate III in Painting and Decorating and an apprenticeship under another qualified, licensed painter. This qualification allows painters to complete most of their work. However, there are some types of projects that could require a higher-level license. For example, NSW requires plumbers who are completing more than $5,000 of work (including labour and materials) to have their work signed off by a licensed builder.
If a builder’s license is required for certain scopes of work, the painter has two options — obtain a builder’s license or work under the supervision and direction of a licensed builder. While both options are acceptable, painters who frequently have large projects may find it better to secure their own builder’s license.
How To Apply For A Builder’s License
Despite being highly qualified for their work, painters do not automatically qualify for a builder’s license. Each state and territory has its own requirements for who can obtain a builder’s license. These rules can change occasionally, so always check with your local municipality on the most current regulations.
- Step 1: Safety Training - Painters who have a lot of work experience likely already meet the safety training requirements to enter construction zones. If you don’t currently have a White Card, you can obtain one by completing a 6-hour safety training course.
- Step 2: Additional Education - Each state or territory will have different training requirements for issuing a builder’s license. At a minimum, most states require the completion of Certificate IV in Building and Construction. Other training courses could also be required.
- Step 3: Obtain Work Experience - In addition to training, builders are required to get hands-on experience through an apprenticeship under the supervision of a qualified builder. The experience required will vary by state, but this generally ranges from 2 to 7 years. A painter’s existing work experience could already meet the requirements in certain circumstances.
- Step 4: Review and Licensing - Once all the requirements have been met, you will need to apply for your license through the local authority that oversees construction licensing. In addition to an application, you may also need a police check and be able to show proof of financial resources (typically a minimum of $10,000 net worth).
