Can A Carpenter Get A Builder’s License?
What’s a Rich Text element?
The rich text element allows you to create and format headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, images, and video all in one place instead of having to add and format them individually. Just double-click and easily create content.
Static and dynamic content editing
A rich text element can be used with static or dynamic content. For static content, just drop it into any page and begin editing. For dynamic content, add a rich text field to any collection and then connect a rich text element to that field in the settings panel. Voila!
How to customize formatting for each rich text
Headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, figures, images, and figure captions can all be styled after a class is added to the rich text element using the "When inside of" nested selector system.
Depending on the jurisdiction, some carpentry work requires the oversight of a licensed builder. To meet this requirement, some carpenters may be interested in getting licensed themselves. In these cases, carpenters need to evaluate if they qualify for a builder’s license and understand how to navigate the application process.
Can A Carpenter Get A Builder’s License?
Depending on what type of work a carpenter is doing, they can and should get a builder’s license. Most states and territories use work value as the determining factor when it comes to licensed and non-licensed work. For example, NSW requires carpenters to have a builder’s license if the work they are completing exceeds $5,000 in value (including labour and materials).
The Australian government takes individuals and businesses that fail to secure the proper builder’s license seriously. Fines can reach up to $250,000 and serious offenders can be sentenced to a year in prison.
How To Apply For A Builder’s License
Despite needing a builder’s license for some projects, carpenters don’t automatically qualify for a builder’s license. The good news is that the process will be easier for carpenters that already have certain training and work experience versus people who don’t have trade experience.
The process to apply for and obtain a builder’s license will depend on the state or territory where you are performing work. It’s critical to find out the specific requirements for your area to ensure you are fully compliant with all laws and regulations. Generally, the following steps are required for carpenters who want to secure a builder’s license.
- Step 1: Safety Training - Australia requires all individuals who work on construction sites to complete a construction safety course. People who complete this training will be issued what is commonly referred to as a White Card. Most carpenters already meet this requirement.
- Step 2: Additional Education - The training carpenters go through to be qualified for their trade will not be sufficient to obtain a builder’s license. In addition, most individuals will also need to complete Certificate IV in Building and Construction. Some states may require other training beyond this certificate.
- Step 3: Obtain Work Experience - Depending on how long you have worked in the carpentry field, you may not need additional work experience. Some states and territories require between 2 and 7 years of experience working under the supervision of a licensed builder.
- Step 4: Review and Licensing - If you meet all of the prerequisites for a builder’s license, you can apply with the local governing body that oversees construction licensing. In addition to the paperwork, you may also need to provide proof of financial resources (often a minimum of $10,000 in net assets) and a police check.
